WIY – you’re looking at it as a four-step sequence, in which case you’d be right. Since every two steps require another step, it is in fact a three-step sequence. Therefore (F – forward; B – backward):

FFB,FFB,FFB,FFB,etc.

So every three steps advance you the distance of one step.
