I saw today in the Derech Chochmah (Beis Habchirah 7:10 in the Beur Hahalachah) where he quoted from R’ Elyashiv that the reason Channukah is 8 days is that if there were 7 branches on the Channukiah it would be an Issur D’oraisa.
