I recently heard that a women/girl has 7 or 8 besherts and that a man only has two or three. Has anyone else heard of this and if so where is the source?

Now watch as people reply to this without even considering the fact that the premise is made up.

I understamd that Sfardi men can have numerous besherts as well as wives. Bad news is that each Sfardi wife comes with at least 1 mother in law, sometimes more.

Beshert is whatever was written this past Rosh haShono [Monday Morning September 17, 2012] and sealed this past Yom Kippur [Wednesday September 26, 2012].

more_2:- These dates were recent, so I did not require a calendar to verify them.

I have heard that both men and women have 6 besherts and each is beshert for a particular time in that person’s life. So if you have a serious shidduch and it doesn’t work out, it could just be that it was the wrong time for it. I know of one couple that dated a few times, broke up, then got married 3 years later.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember the source for this.

You have one “beshert” and that’s the one you got married to.

I actually think all this bashert business (although some of which is true once you look up all the sources and weed out fact from fiction)is actually a big distraction for most people and an added cause of anxiety in a situation already overly fraught with anxiety.

“You have one ‘beshert’ and that’s the one you got married to.”

Really? Then how do you explain divorce?

Then how do you explain divorce?

By staying married and not divorcing, because divorce causes the Mizbeach as well as innocent children to shed copious tears, in addition to awful acrimony and suffering, so simply better to remain married and never divorce. Instead:- Work on your Middos & make a go of your marriage.

“Instead:- Work on your Middos & make a go of your marriage…….Suppose your spouse is abusive?”

It only helps if both parties work on the marriage, not just the victim.

IMHO this whole “beshert” thing in shidduchim is a little out of hand. Nobody is CH”V denying the undeniable Hashgacha Pratis that determines the progression of our minutes and days. But has anyone else noticed like me that young dating men & ladies will blithely say not to a shidduch on the basis of some minute narishkeit and then say, “well it wasn’t beshert”!? Then they”ll cry about their unending singlehood and insist they’re not being picky, they just haven’t found their beshert.

& when such singles came to the Steipler, he berated them telling them, that you did meet your Beshert, but turned her/him down.
