ya basically my expression right now lol

FF froze @ 1201. finally able to close it 1211. opened chrome @ 1215. chrome finally launched at 1220 and now my shockwave player is slow.

and FF likes to freeze and wreak havoc on my laptop a couple times a day

    any ideas? I’m desperate

From the sound of it, it seems your computer is at fault. Maybe some disk spring cleaning will help.

That was when I made the final leap to chrome. Couldn’t take it anymore. No problems since.

It’s strange, my husband has similar problems to what you’re describing – frequent freezing of the program, etc. I, on the other hand, have no such experience whatsoever, by”h and am very happy with FF. I hesitate to switch over because there are many sites that have functions to do which are only compatible with a limited number of browsers. Hope your troubles resolve quickly.

there are 3 things i’ve figured out will slow down any of my browsers (and computer)

    1-mcafee runs a scan

    2-the lord and taylor website

3-when I need it to work

I’ve been thinking of doing a disk defrag.

right now i’m on chrome and now its working fine after its ‘warm-up’. What I like about chrome is that if a page is dead, it lets you kill that page only and get back to work. and when it crashes, it crashes without messing up your computer like FF

I’m not gonna use FF today even though I have school work. I’ll just do it on chrome cuz FF is not worth the headache today

Really, if your computer is as nimble as it should be, the lag between Firefox and Chrome should be minute or indistinguishable. A disk defrag is good. You can also do some other stuff – I find that the things that slow the computer down the most are those kajillion little utilities that come with your computer, and turn on in the background when you start up. You really don’t need most of them, so the best solution is to just go to the Control Panel and uninstall them (only do this if you know which are really integral to the system).

I went into control panel today and deleted some programs I don’t use. I really want to get rid of those toolbars that always crash. I tried deleting one but it kept saying “close all chrome windows to continue” but I had no browsers open!

so far FF has crashed once today (like it went Kablu-ee with out warning), froze a few times too and chrome froze once but then was alright. Now I’m on FF b/c I was doing school work. If I refrain from using shockwave or flash FF is faster. I think its FF itself b/c chrome never slowed my computer like this.

I’d love to get rid of those minute detail programs but I don’t know what they do or not do so I will leave those around for no

    Thanks!

I’m also going to install those 100+ updates (MS word, PP, excel, Windows updates etc) my computer wants me to install and then do a defrag as well.

so I checked under disk defrag how long it would take and saw it was done this morning at 1am. I didn’t even know I had it set to run weekly. well thats taken care of

right now i’m running ‘disk cleanup’ to see how much it can free up

and eventually (tonight or tom) I’ll do the updates

And I’ll let you know how it goes IY”H

Also don’t forget to set McAfee to scan at times that you’re not on the computer – 3 a.m. is good since it’ll be done before you’re up in the morning.

OK FF is working today B”H, Bli Ayin Hara. I’m getting used to the lag but its a pain and a half compared to chrome

and I reset mcafee to run @ 1am so that should help.

calling OOM. i kinda crashed my laptop by spilling coffee on it… got a new one but I’m not putting FF on it yet. I’m using chrome for all my regular internet stuff and I’m using IE9 for my school website. as long as I can stay off FF, the better. no offense but chrome is way better

    moski: Firefox trademarked Awesome. 😛

yy: See, I would immediately stop using a browser that had the chutzpah to do that without me instructing it to. Ome of the reasons I can’t stand Google (and all its little offspring)…

well hmph on you. the first time I signed into chrome via google it told me that if i sign into chrome on a dif computer it transfers e/t over so I was informed but of course I was like “ya when am i ever going to need this if my computer is gonna last for a few more years…” and of course when my computer was only 2 years old I had to get a new one ASAP as in “I have a 6 page APA format paper due in 2 days” ASAP.

so B”H my father is unbelieveable and took me to get a new one that day, got chrome and DropBox for the new one and wrote the whole paper done.

oh and dropbox is the best.

6 page papers? You lucky science major you. 😛

Yeah, I have some friends that cannot stop extolling the virtues of dropbox. What exactly is it for again?

    #986898

actually came out to 8 cuz of title page, abstract and resources.

dropbox is online cloud storage. you make an account and get 2 GB free but by doing some stuff, you can increase storage. I currently have 3 GB. they also have paid plans. from the website, you can upload files and they are accessible anywhere with internet to download to any computer. they also have mobile apps where you can save some files on the phone or iPod touch for anytime reading. they also have a program download that makes a file called “dropbox” on your computer. any files you save in that file automatically upload to the dropbox website for access anywhere. and any other computer you put dropbox on (and log into same account) syncs automatically as well.

Dropbox is very handy. I use it for my docs that I might want to access when I don’t have my computer with me, so I can just sign in from another.

Also, bec I have a netbook for traveling. So I have them synced.

OOM, true but how often is that today?

TLKY, I have been using DB for 2 years and have no interest in switching. I tried Drive but was not impressed. plus I share some infrequently updated files with someone so I need DB anyways. plus, how much does word docs, pdfs and ppt’s really take up?

8 pages sounds like a reasonably sized introduction.

    #986907

so does count. takes time to edit the pages, find all the resources you used, make sure its APA style and alphabetical order.
