Don’t know enough to make a decision yet, but they’re neither of them great candidates…

Sometimes I thank Hashem very, very sincerely that I don’t live in NYC but rather in Monsey. This is one of those times.

Other times I thank Hashem that I’m not yet eighteen and I don’t need to care who’s running for election. This is also one of those times. (Monsey is not immune to annoying elections, though ultimately it doesn’t matter who you vote for.)

Look- I’ll confess. I’m pretty much a liberal democrat. I voted for Obama and don’t regret it. But I’m probably going to vote for Lhota. I don’t think DiBlasio is all that bad, but on the local level, his policies make no sense. The city has done great under Giuliani and Bloomberg. Under Dinkins and before, not so much. DiBlasio ran a primary campaign based on pie in the sky type of things that a local mayor has little to do with- ending income inequality. Sure, that’s a serious problem, but it is just a symptom of the national economy. Keeping hospitals open? Sure, I’d like to keep hospitals open, but the mayor doesn’t have a magic wand where a hospital that consistently loses money can stay open. And the most important thing in the city is to keep crime low. If crime ticks up, lots and lots of people leave and the city’s tax base disappears and it just becomes awful to live here. I remember how it was back in the day. For some reason, some new yorkers look back on the days of graffiti and crime fondly, but it was not good.

heretohelp, actually one of Giuliani’s greatest accomplishments was the fact that all of NYC HHC hospitals received accredidation and none of them closed down.

i am generally considered a liberal democrat as are most new yorkers. that being said, one thing the past few decades have proved is that new yorkers are also very smart when it comes down to who will get their vote for mayor and do not automatically vote for the liberal democrat. new yorker vote for whomever will do the best job and as such i foresee lhota in a landslide.

Lhota has the police on his side, due to his support for stop and frisk. In NYC, many consider safety to be our number one priority, and I think that this will loom heavily on the minds of many voters. Those who are concerned with social programs and entitlements will most likely vote for De Blasio, although Joe Lhota is no right-winger. He’s in favor of legalization of pot, he’s pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, and he recently said he’d support a $500 million univeral pre-k program. There’s a very good article in the NY Times from the other day by Michael Powell, “The Opposite of Bloomberg? Not So Fast,” that I’d strongly suggest the public read.

now that we got the go ahead from the Clintons nomination, deBlasio is 80% winning…I’d put money on it!
