    The following is from POLITICO:

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) recently lamented his own weight during a painfully slow bailout hearing on Capitol Hill last month.

Members say endless lunchtime meetings, heavy travel schedules and late-night hours have caused traffic to pick up both in the Senate gym and at the cafeteria salad bar.

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) hops on the treadmill for 30 minutes every night in the Senate gym, takes a brief bike ride and is adding some upper-body weights when he can squeeze them in. His busy days rarely leave him an opening before 8 p.m.

Almost all of the lawmakers POLITICO interviewed said their biggest temptation is the cafeteria pie. Apple is the problem for DeMint and Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii). Blueberry is the temptation for Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who often hits the gym at 7 a.m.

His routine: At 6:30 in the morning, the 80-year-old is on the treadmill at an 8-degree incline, walking at an impressive 15-minute mile pace.

While women are her most frequent stress eaters, she says her male clients are overeating at night.

The most in-shape people on the Hill: the reporters. Tallmadge says one of her journalist clients has clocked in an average of 17,000 steps a day while scrambling for interviews.

In some cases, the hectic year so far has promoted weight loss.

So, can I also join the Senate gym?

Plus if I had a chef cooking and making me salads every morning I’m sure I could also lose 40 lbs!

Anyways, men lose much faster than woman and usually go on a yo yo diet. So really not that impressed!

they’re gaining all that weight even without Shabbos, Pesach, Purim, Shavuos, weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, Brissim, etc… wow! I’m still trying to figure out how to get off the few extra pounds I gained over Pesach- maybe I should join the senate gym while making sure to stay clear of their cafeteria.

Lgbg, I think we should all go on a strict felafel diet, and see if that works, instead of fancy salads.

IM Here – its a lot easier to gain weight when you combine meat and dairy – think of chicken parmigian, cheeseburgers etc. Sometimes, my waistline is very thankful that I keep kosher!

Pashute Yid, first of all a felafel diet is not my taste; felafels are FATTENING (even if the pizza man may have told you otherwise), second I could tell you really aint a girl!

lgbg- I just bought a fitness ball that I can sit on and do all kind of exercises while I am on YWN and other sights on line. There are all kind of fitness exercises that one can do that may be helpful in burning calories. Just make sure you have fairly good balance, and have a good thick mat to put your feet on when doing exercises on the FB.

As of now not doing much exercise, except going walking for lunch break when it’s nice weather outside. And when I actually go onto yw its when I am sitting at work-not really a place for a fitness ball 🙂 but thanks for the idea

A good recommendation is a NEAT program. That is, you do little bursts of exercise throughout your day. An easy trick is to stand instead of sit whenever possible- you burn 3 times as many calories standing as sitting.

Lgbg, oh no, don’t tell me that eating falafels is considered a breach of tznius for women now, and only ok for men.

Ask your doctor if it would help for you to go on a strict chulent diet. I am talking 3 meals a day of chulent for a year, just like was served at your sheva brachos.

but if you’re really set on that then i can’t help you. why would you rather limit what you could eat than enjoy yourself and just play a good game? i’ll never get it so i’m giving it up now.

my tip for weight lose for starting off: drink lots of water and lay off all the sugar drinks like soda & stuff like that!

    #644188

hi100- Talk to your Physician for a good diet plan. Stick to it, and have realistic goals of the amount of weight you want lose, and how much weight you want to lose each week.

hi100, if you don’t like vegetables, you may prefer fresh fruit. There are lots of fresh fruits, especially berries, that you can find at affordable prices in the supermarket now. Once you are more used to eating fruit, you can try some sweeter vegetables, such as carrots or sugar snap peas.

lgbg welcome back and a big mazel tov to you!

The best diets are the one’s where you can eat whatever you want in moderation.

However you must exercise daily to keep up/speed up your mentabolism!People who have a slower mentabolism tend to gain wheight faster!

    Hello, fellow YWN members.

I’m looking for tips on getting rid of my abs. I’m otherwise in good shape, but I’m carrying around a belly. What’s the best exercise to attain my goals?

Additionally, if someone here is familiar with the exercise machines at Kosher Gym (now called Energyze, right?), perhaps you would be so kind and refer me to the specific machines which will best help me to trim my stomache?

I’m a guy, by the way.

    Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone! Just letting you know I so far am on my diet for exactly 2 weeks and 2 days and lost anywhere from 6-10 pounds (my scale can’t make up it’s mind)

Just eat healthy breakfast, snacks throughout the day like fruits, veggies, or nuts, and a healthy lunch and supper. Also work out as often as possible.

LiederLieder, I’m not sure bout the guys side but on the women’s side there’s a sit-up machine and another machine that you sit in that does the same job as crunches.

you might also wana invest $40 in an ab-blaster, depending how serious you are about losing the belly

    Gluk!

I ate a bad of salt and vinegar potato chips after lunch today. Potatoes are a vegetable right? At least I have pregnancy as an excuse.

#1 DIET RULE: Never eat between snacks.

    That’s the way I diet!

Between snacks? Between snacks I sleep 6-8 hours.

If you have breaks in between your snacks then you have no need to diet any more than that.

I eat once a day. It’s like the rain here on the East coast – this week it only rained twice (once for 3 days and once for 4 days).

right there with you I always have mint sugar free gum on me! I also always eat three meals a day otherwise I will es and fress the whole day!

The best trick is to go shopping in a mall that has very little kosher food! When I go to the mall I end up spending almost the whole afternoon/day theer so I am not hungry/don’t have time to eat,I have to go shopping -so when I come back from the mall I am starving and I end up eating one big thing instead of 15 big things!

I wish that I could cill the way you think I can! I haven’t shopped in a mall since before Pesach!

All of these research papers for college make me starving, so latley-especially now-which is around final season I eat, work, eat, work, work, and some more work!LOL!

I motivate myself to do my work -by telling myself when x amount of work is done then I can go into the CR!
