I’m going snowboarding in Alaska. I think I’m going to become a moron. http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/im-in-salt-lake-city

And I bought the wifi, so I’m posting from the plane.

Going to become? You have already been crowned as one. In fact we gave you the honorary title of moron hagaon harav admor mi-popa shlita.

And its good you have wifi otherwise our posts would take forever to be approved…

I don’t know how the slopes are, but please bear in mind, that according to some Shitos, parts of Western Alaska may possibly be considered on the West Side of the Jewish Dateline, so please be careful to abstain from skiing both on Friday & Saturday.

It will be very hard to convince me of that. Since I flew today on Alaskan Airlines on a connection from Chicago to Anchorage that had wifi on the plane, and I have flown on other US airlines with wifi as well.

Well as the title of this thread is “On a plane”, I’d assume the former.

The mountain is really good. It’s basically like one big bowl.

No new snow today, but it was still pretty good.

Poppa- is Alaska as pretty as I’d imagine it to be, with wild moose and grizzly bears dancing merrily in the snow?

It is really beautiful. But I think the bears are hibernating. And I haven’t seen a moose yet.

I’m totally staying on a bunk in a hostel. Google “Alyeska hostel” and you can see where I am.

Strange little place. I didn’t tell them I’m Jewish, let alone an Orthodox rabbi. I daven in my car.

Lol this thread is a crack up;)

Popa did you bring your car with you on the plane? Or did you rent one there??

Why wouldn’t you want them to know you are jewish??

I rented one here. For 88 bucks. It doesn’t have snow tires, and I’m sliding all over the place. They don’t even pretend to plow the roads here.

I don’t want them to know I’m jewish, in case they have any prejudices about it.

Does it have P185/65 R14 tires?

So I was riding in a pack with my hostel buddies. We was busting all over the mountain, in a posse. And there was mad powder, they got like 2-3 feet. Check out the alyeska snow report. I think at some points we were 8 or 9, including some other ski bum that some of us knew. And the hostel’s houseparent who is also a ski bum, who I hadn’t seen the whole time until then because she stays out getting stoned, and they say has fallen off her bunk 3 times in drunken stupor (which is the third tier up).

And then we rode into a clearing in the woods. Then, they bust out cans of beer, and pass them around. And bust out a pot pipe and pass that around. The houseparent was then advocating snowboarding while using magic mushrooms. She said that it is really cool–the snow is purple, and you are… She said she once showed up to work afterwards at the hotel kitchen and it was really weird cooking with 8 foot long arms.

Then, last night we went to play trivia at the resort pub. But the questions were too hard, so we went outside to smoke pot instead. But I didn’t smoke any pot.

The night before we stayed home and played drinking games, and the hostel guy came down to yell at us for making too much noise.

We had 4 ski bums, 2 australian exchange students, 2 alaskan college kids, and a popa.

That makes 5 bums not 4! Do your math, mate;)

You beat me. Is this a late Purim joke?

My craziest experience was while working as a security volunteer for the world skiing championships almost 10 years ago, getting stuck on a Swiss mountain on a steep slope in near-darkness in a heavy snowstorm (blizzard), extreme cold, and resulting in not being able to see up, down, right, left, front or behind. Met up with a snowboarder and a couple of soldiers stuck in the same situation, eventually we managed to get down very slowly, took more than an hour for what usually would take 2 minutes or so. And that one’s real. Yours sounds too crazy to be true.

    All completely true.

The first run of the day yesterday was a big mistake.

My goggles were totally fogged up, because they had gotten full of snow while I was hiking the mile from the hostel to the mountain in the driving snow.

And the snow on top was way too deep to board in–you just sank right in. And it was foggy and snowing. So I couldn’t see a thing.

It took me about an hour and a half to get down on that first run. And it was not fun.

But after that we had a blast.

I forgot to mention; So you think that we were the only ones smoking pot in that clearing in the woods?

Well, when we got there, there was another group of people already there who were leaving. And before we left, a third group showed up. This third group was carrying a bong with them. I had never seen a bong before. My buddies all thought that was very hard core of them to be shlepping a bong with them while boarding.

And that’s my whole trip report, unless there are questions. Because I got back.

See, so the question is whether I even care that nobody believes me. Because, those who think I am lying, think I make up good stories. And I also like making up good stories, so that is something I like anyway.

As it happens, this is all true.

One of them facebook friended me, and then unfriended me after I accepted. I don’t know why.

PBA – I’m sure I have many crazy stories, but this one taught me a lesson. I was in a Shul in a strange city, before e/o had cells, Davening Maariv. I was long in my S’E and all of a sudden the lights went out and the door closed. I calmly finished Davening figuring I could just get out in the dark. Anyway this Shul was part of a hotel -so I made my way to the door but you couldn’t open it from the inside and the lights were outside too. Banging did nothing -it wasn’t near anything – in the basement somewhere. So I’m thinking I’m going to have to spend the nite there. Anyway, I decided to search the whole Shul if there was a way out. I searched and found a Janitor’s room. It was like a long closet with cleaning supplies in it. I searched the room and there was a door which was locked, but it was only locked to the outside. Since I was on the inside, I was able to open it. It led to the outside of the hotel -so I was freed for the night.

Squeak: the onesh of a badai is supposed to be that nobody listens to him even when he tells the truth. meaning, in addition to when he lies.

With me, people only don’t believe me when I tell the truth. I am a skilled enough liar that I make sure my fiction is believable (when I want it to be believed). But my truths I cannot control (except by not doing those things) and they seem incredible. so people don’t believe my truths.

midwesterner told me via email that he believes me. Surprisingly, he didn’t ask to come along next time.

I intend to do a similar trip next year also at around this time, unless mashiach has come in which case we will go to switzerland which is closer to israel.
