Being the world’ worst parallel parker, I almost always bump the bumpers (that’s why they’re called bumpers, right?) of the cars in front and back of me when parallel parking.

    A) Is this acceptable? (They’re called bumpers, remember?) and B) How can I get better at parking in New York’s infamous extremely tight parking spots?

Avhaben: No. You’re a Mazik in such a case.

practice makes perfect! the more i park the better i get!! I am a much better parker then I was when I first got my license! almost 2 years later and its easy for me to make perfect parks when before I would watch other people do and think it was so hard.

well if you bump them a little its fine but not if you bump them too much and it makes a mark and make sure when you do it they are not in the car because the driver will probably get mad!

I agree with princess17. As long as you don’t cause any damage, there is nothing wrong if you only touch the other car(s) when backing into the parking spot. It is expected and the “custom” (especially in NYC).

I go by minhag hamakom. In NYC, I bump like a banshee. In most other places, I try not to touch, but am more careful in cities where people are more careful.

One time, there was simply nowhere to park except one very small space, which I wasn’t even sure my car would fit into. I bumped and bumped, and got my car in, with approximately 2-3 inches combined on both sides (I have pictures to prove it, and I am not exaggerating.)

When I came back, the guy in the car behind me was sitting in his car. So he calls me over to yell at me. So he is an old man, so I go over, and listen, and apologize, and say I was very gentle, etc. Then, we start shmoozing, and I end up there shmoozing with him for 2.5 hours. He was an old frum man, whose wife had died, and had fought in Normandy.

That’s an interesting story. I have a tow hitch on my truck so if i bump anyone in reverse I leave a baseball-sized hole in their bumper. It’s good bumping protection; keeps my chrome rear bumper spotless. We don’t bump in these parts though, loads of parking spaces available everywhere.

Yeah, comedians are known for their sensitivity; it’s part of the personality.

    Seriously, that’s impressive kiruv.
