I just saw a post on Facebook where someone found a tallis/tefillin bag and, having only the first name embroidered on the bag, has no idea how to contact the person to return it. This is not the first time I’ve seen such a post — nor even the second or third.

This could easily be solved by simply keeping an index card in the bag that says “If found, please contact XXXX at [phone number] or [email address]/[twitter handle]/[whatever other method of contact].” It would greatly increase the odds of getting your tallis/tefillin back and speed up the process as well.

Yes, I have such a card in my bag. I also have my name/phone number/email address written on the inside cover of my siddur which is always kept in the tallis bag.

I have a sticker with my name and phone # on the plastic outer cover.

    Thanks, Wolf, for the PSA.

I have a sticker with the Wolf’s name, and phone number. I figure if I lose it I’ll just call him every day.

    “/[twitter handle]/”

Why would someone need to put their twitter handle, of all things, considering the myriad of contact options (phone, email) that most people know how to use versus a technology (twitter) most people do not use?

It was just an example. Feel free to substitute Facebook profile, LinkedIn profile or any other method of contact.

    It’s “blockquote” on the CR.

(Or maybe it’s that only “blockquote” is usable on the CR.)

I still don’t understand the suggestion to use contact technologies that most people don’t use or even know how to use, such as Twitter and LinkedIn, when there is a plethora of methods of contact, such as telephone and e-mail, that is virtually universal.

It’s just about giving people more ways to contact you so that your tallis/tefillin can be returned to you. If you don’t want to include it, then don’t.

Does it really disturb you if it includes it?
