iacisrmma: Many NYC driveways are illegal driveways and it is completely legal for anyone to block it.
Slonimer; The problem is we don’t know which ones are illegal. We need someone to do the research manually at Dept. of Buildings and post it on a dedicated website so we can check it up on the fly when we’re parking.
Thank you in advance.
slonimer: Maybe in your neighborhood your statement is accurate; most, if not all, of the driveways in my neighborhood are legal.
iacisrmma: How do you know your neighbors’ driveways are all legal? Or even which are and which aren’t?
I had one neighbor who had a driveway for many years until one day the city fined him for it and forced him to repave the curb cut. Another new neighbor recently bought a fully attached brownstone that never had a driveway, renovated the house and built a garage into the front of the home and made a curb cut. I seriously doubt it is legal.
When the city repaved the streets last year, all the homes that had curb cuts before the repaving had them after the repaving. I know that all the homes on my block have the driveways and easements stated in their deeds. Unless you have clear proof that the driveway is illegal, I would advise not to park in front of it.
if the driveway leads to a garage at the house’s rear it’s a good chance it’s legal
