I recently had a shailah come up which was very complex. My Rav didn’t want to pasken on it. He referred me to R’ Dovid Feinstein. I tried reaching R’ Dovid every day for weeks with no luck. I told my Rav this, and he gave me a few other people to try. I asked them, and none of them wanted to pasken it either. They referred me to others, and it always ended up with my being told to reach R’ Dovid Feinstein. I tried reaching him every day for about 5 weeks without any luck. I finally got an answer because one of the Rabbonim I asked met him at a levaya and asked him the shailah.

There has to be a way to reach the big Rabbonim. I understand they’re busy, but people need them! I wasn’t just going to get a brachah, this was a shailah that affected my everyday life.

Are there times he’s available in yeshiva?

That was when I tried reaching him. Before shiur and after shiur. He was always busy, either in a meeting or just not answering his phone.

Call the Yeshiva payphone. I never had a problem reaching him.

Unless it changed in the past few years. The yeshiva payphone was the best way to reach him.

I have to agree with Joseph here, the Yeshiva payphone is the best known way of reaching the Rosh HaYeshiva

    “YCT is not Orthodox.”

Why do you say it is not Orthodox? The faculty are shomer mitzvot, with Orthodox semichah.

    Charlie,

I’ve agreed with most everything you’ve posted, but to suggest YCT on YWN?? It’s completely inappropriate for the oilam.

I don’t know enough about YCT to say much about them. However, the fact that they are shomrei mitzvot and have semicha from Orthodox institutions does not really prove much.

JTS’s faculty used to also be shomrei mitzvot, and had Orthodox semicha, and even included such scholars as Saul Lieberman. Yet- nobody debates that they were clearly not Orthodox, and clearly did not represent Judaism.
