Yes and no.
December 25, 2013 5:44 pm at 5:44 pm #995685rabbiofberlinParticipantDaas Yochid: you are confusing me….I looked back on the thread and I did not see anything that smacks of apikorsus- are you seriously saying that when one maintains that one should work for a living and does not suscribe tot the kollel mentality of today ,one is an apikores??
December 25, 2013 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm #995686☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo
December 25, 2013 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #995687Sam2Participantrob: He said that someone who spends all his time learning does not qualify as being a productive member of society. DY called that Apikorsus. I don’t quite think it’s Apikorsis, but it is extreme arrogance and stupidity.
December 25, 2013 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #995688☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, classic ??? ???? ?? ????.
December 25, 2013 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #995689Sam2ParticipantDY: I don’t know if denying the concept that each additional word of Torah brings more good into the world classifies as Mai Ahanu Lan Rabannan. That’s the only reason it might not be Apikorsus.
December 25, 2013 6:55 pm at 6:55 pm #995690☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt probably does, but that’s not what he said, anyhow.
He was talking about people. Just as the gemara was.
And I didn’t even bring Abaye in.
December 25, 2013 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm #995691Sam2ParticipantDY: Fair point, though context could say he’s only referring to someone who refuses to ever work and will learn his whole life whether he can afford to or not, which also may not qualify (though it probably does as well).
December 25, 2013 7:30 pm at 7:30 pm #995692☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAt this point, I’m not even discussing who should and shouldn’t be working or learning full time. I made a simple observation that calling a learner unproductive is precisely what the gemara called apikorsus.

December 25, 2013 8:51 pm at 8:51 pm #995694rabbiofberlinParticipantDaas yochid and sam2,I reviewed the thread again and I cannot see where anyone, not rebdoniel nor 613 said anything about learners not being productive,so I am still baffled where there may be any apikorsus
December 25, 2013 9:10 pm at 9:10 pm #995695☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’m gonna take a guess that 613 isn’t an apikorus.
As for rd, I don’t like to refer to a person as an apikorus, but the viewpoint he espoused, which is apikorsus, was said by implication, not explicitly.
He hasn’t tried to clarify otherwise.
December 25, 2013 9:50 pm at 9:50 pm #995696rebdonielMemberAnd here I thought I was an “apikores” because I suggested SYAS and JWed.
December 25, 2013 10:40 pm at 10:40 pm #995697☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf you thought SYAS and JWed were apikorsus, you shouldn’t have suggested them.:)
