im going through something very hard right now, and i want to talk to my former teacher abt it because i know she helped someone in my situation. i feel uncomfortable talking to her though, because of several stuff. first of all, she taught me two years ago and i never really had a close relationship with her. also, its the summer so i feel weird doing calling her, but i really respect her and need her help. if you would be a teacher and i would come talk to you, in the situation i just described, would you think i was weird?
I have never had any benefit from talking to teachers, even those who had a reputation for being good to talk to about particular things. I think that having a good relationship with the advisor is a precursor to getting a meaningful benefit.
if you think she may be able to help, it doesnt hurt to call and ask (unless she’s someone who’d spread the news, which i doubt). Teachers are usually happy to help if they’re capable. If she can’t, i’d hope she’d let you know and help direct you to someone who can. The fact that she was your teacher 2 yrs ago shouldnt be a veto factor. Many times girls go to past teachers. Gluck!
Go, contrary to the popular american beleif that everyone should hate teachers and mock them behind their back, teachers are older and wiser and will help without disclosing any information to anyone (if its a good teacher)
My teachers hlwere very helpful to me this past year! Go for it!

I won’t answer your question directly. I see that what concerns you more than getting help is your image and what people think of you. Very symptomatic of teenage years. Anyways my advice to you is what the mishna says in Avos “The bashful one learns nothing.” What I mean is don’t let these fears and uncomfortable feelings get in your way of doing what you must do for your own wellbeing. Many people never get the help they need to develop into healthy adults because they were afraid of approaching someone to say they need help and advice. So I will strongly urge you to go to this teacher if you trust her and if she has a reputation as being helpful for teens in your or similar situations and get that help that you need. taom: I AM a teacher and while I can say that every teacher does enjoy July and Aug, I am sure that your teacher would be happy to speak to you and will be careful not to spread information. Hatzlacha Rabbah!
