Nothing more needs to be added beyond the title of this post. Guy never missed a chance to dump on democrats who took vacations, yet when Texas faces a major catastrophe he is on the way to Cancun. I guess, “let them eat cake.”

Mr. Sheker, there is a massive difference between his criticism of Christie (talk about a real hypocrite and liar) who ordered a closure on all beaches, and then went to the beach, compared to Cruz, who had booked this trip before-hand, was nothing more that he could do to fix the cold-weather issues than was already being done, and stopped his trip short to return anyway. If you wanted him to just stand in solidarity with those in the cold, then yes, I guess he could have done that.

There’s absolutely nothing Ted Cruz could do in Texas about the power outage that he couldn’t do remotely from anywhere else. Him physically being in Texas during the blackout would have accomplished nothing.

Sorry, Ted Cruz is a Senator and there was nothing he could do about the cold snap other then being there and being cold with everyone, [the crises was brought on the the use of renewable energy when the wind turbines froze].
Far different then the liberal pols who were preaching social distance and no travel and doing the opposite. here is two prime examples:
    Exhibit #1
The finance minister for Canada’s most populous province resigned Thursday after going on a Caribbean vacation during the pandemic and seemingly trying to hide the fact by sending social media posts showing him in a sweater before a fireplace.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he had accepted Rod Phillips’s resignation as minister hours after Phillips returned home from a more than two-week stay on the island of St. Barts despite government guidelines urging people to avoid nonessential travel.

“Travelling over the holidays was the wrong decision, and I once again offer my unreserved apology,” Phillips said in a statement confirming his resignation.

In a video posted on Twitter on Christmas Eve, the sweater-wearing finance minister was shown drinking eggnog beside a fireplace with a gingerbread house and a little Christmas tree.

“I want to thank every one of you for what we are doing to protect our most vulnerable,” Phillips said about Ontarians hunkered down at home because of the pandemic over the Christmas holidays.

But Phillips himself had been enjoying a Caribbean vacation since Dec. 13 on St. Barts, a French island popular with the rich and famous, even as his Twitter account had suggested he was in snowbound Ontario.

Opposition parties and health officials had called for Phillips to be fired from Cabinet. One party released video of a Zoom call showing Phillips participating — also while wearing a sweater — with a picture of the legislature as his backdrop, but with sounds like waves heard in the background.

The incident created a political problem for Ford, who acknowledged on Wednesday he knew Phillips was outside the country before it became public because Ford said he called Phillips “shortly after he arrived” in the Caribbean.
Ontario began a province-wide lockdown on Saturday and Ford has been blaming travelers for bringing the new coronavirus to the province.
“This is a devastating blow to the government and Ford personally because, as he has admitted, he knew that Phillips was in St. Bart’s and did not upbraid and order him back immediately,” said Nelson Wiseman, a political science professor at the University of Toronto. “Ford only did so once the news of Phillips’s absence became public,.”
    Exhibit #2
More political fallout as a result of these exclusive photos FOX 11 obtained showing Governor Gavin Newsom attending an expensive dinner party. Tonight, we’re learning more about who else was at that party including two top California medical officials.

Not only do they call into question Governor Newsom’s explanation that the dinner was outside they also reveal that two high-level members of the California Medical Association were there at the dinner with the governor and has become a national symbol of do as I say, not as I do.

FOX 11 spoke to Jamie Court about the photos and said, “Well I was shocked, first of all, that they were so close together, and it didn’t appear they were outside.”
Court is president of the progressive organization Consumer Watchdog and his shock didn’t end with what he saw in the photos, but who he saw in them.

A closer look reveals that Janus Norman a top lobbyist for the California Medical Association who is sitting right next to Governor Newsom.
On Newsom’s other side is the CEO of the California Medical Association Dustin Corcoran.
Neither of them, as a matter of fact, no one at the table was wearing a mask or social-distancing despite the CMA funding an ad campaign this year urging people to wear masks.

Court says, “The message is to forget the pandemic, sit as close as you can, no face-coverings, no masks, no social-distancing, this is the state’s medical association, they speak for the doctors in the state, and their chief lobbyist and the president are sitting shoulder to shoulder with the governor as though its’ any time in American history not in the time of a pandemic.”

Yes, Ted Cruz advocated for a snow storm that would wreak havoc in Texas and called for Texans to stay in their homes and freeze, just like Newsom and Pelosi made draconian rules and repeatedly called for the public to adhere to them, and were then caught violating those very same rules.

You need to look up the definition of hypocrite. Was Cruz insensitive? Maybe. Politically dumb? Certainly. Hypocritical? Nope.

To Shady Chareidi: I gave Ted Cruz a pass based on the same information you cited. It turns out it was mostly untrue, as revealed by his wife’s e-mails and other information, like the ticket he first booked for a return from Cancun several days later than his arrival.

That makes him a hypocrite and a liar. Will it hurt his re-election chances in Texas? I don’t know, but I suspect it would not.

Someone – I think a US senator, said Cruz is so thoroughly despised by his Senate colleagues that someone could shoot him dead on the floor of the Senate, and not one US senator would want the shooter convicted.

Always so sure, always so wrong.

Cruz had not booked this trip in advance, the evidence has shown it was last minute. (per his wife’s text messages among other sources).
His children has an unexpected school break because of the 2weather/power/water issues. He tried/lied claiming an excuse to take them and deliver them to Cancun and come right back, despite reservations for returning days later.
Certainly, mama Cruz could have taken the girls to Cancun without his assistance, they are not babies.
Rafael Cruz, just another Hispanic fleeing America because of ICE. As a Canadian he surely could have handled snow and cold weather…born and raised in Calgary.

Cruz and his family could have volunteered to help those of his constituents who couldn’t affortd to fly down to the Ritz Carlton. Many other Republican officials were shown working with emergency centers, food banks, etc. doing what they could to help the elderly and low-income residents of the state. Saying “Democrats are also self-centered, selfish hypoocrities too” makes it OK??
Also, during his entire tenure as a political figure, Cruz has opposed efforts to make Texas power suppliers and T&D companies in the ERCOT portions of the state, comply with the same reliability requirements as non-ERCOT Texas utilities and those in the other 47 states subject to FERC jurisdiction.

Cruz DID offer to help pay but the truth is he shouldn’t have left. He realized it and came back to face the music. Im not defending his lapse in switching from ‘dad hat’ back to politician, but i will say that few if any of those caught brealing their lockdown restrictions owned it or gave two hoots. If he would have said. “I have to make public appearances so I need to have heat and water” (ala lori lightfoot) THEN you could call him a hypocrite.

Whenever “they” get caught, “they” quickly invoke the “the Dems did it too” defense and rationalizations. Look at Cuomo, look at the mayor of Austin (who held a big chassanah and then flew down to Mexico with the mishpacha on a private jet in the worst month of the Pandemic). As of late today, AOC had raised $6 million to be distributed to low-income families facing whose homes were made uninhabitable from water damage. Others continue to volunteer and help constituents fill out FEMA form for low cost loans. Listen to Texas Republican Congressman Mike McCall’s interview on Meet the Press today commenting on Cruz. Same from most other Republican politicians in Texas. Cruz was uniformly hated on a bipartisan basis for his self-centered, narcissistic approach to politics.

The biggest hypocrisy is commenters focusing on Cuomo’s cover-up (the actual nursing home police was and is defensible) and completely ignoring Trump’s lies and Kushner’s venality that killed t tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands.

“Cruz has opposed efforts to make Texas power suppliers and T&D companies in the ERCOT portions of the state, comply with the same reliability requirements as non-ERCOT Texas utilities and those in the other 47 states subject to FERC jurisdiction.”

That is the real scandal here. But we the suckers in New York will pay to bail out Texas and probably won’t demand that they start acting like a normal state. Wind turbines in Alaska continue to operate; I found one wind farm that is doing fine with temperatures that have not been above minus ten this week.

“Cruz has opposed efforts to make Texas power suppliers and T&D companies in the ERCOT portions of the state, comply with the same reliability requirements as non-ERCOT Texas utilities and those in the other 47 states subject to FERC jurisdiction.”
Energy deregulation was pushed by both parties in Texas including Gov. Ann Richards, Around 1992 Texas governor Ann Richards started planning policy and technical initiatives for renewable energy, convinced that most of the previous attempts at energy independence had been little more than “a declaration of war in one place or another.”
Richards’ initiatives fed into the 1999 state electric market deregulation, signed by then-governor GW Bush, which included a 2,000 MW target for wind energy. By 2005, then-governor Rick Perry signed a bill that more than tripled the requirement with a goal of 2015.
    So hardly a GOP plot.

Common Saychel: Deregulation of the Texas energy market was indeed bipartisan but Republican-led PUCT consistently blocked efforts to require ERCOT wholesale suppliers to adopt the same NERC reliability standards (including winterization) applicable to other regional power markets which also have a separate capacity (mw) markets under which a generator must meet minimum standards to be paid and included frequent inspections for compliance. Also, the PUCT doesn’t have any jurisdiction over gas suppliers and pipelines which are regulated by the Texas Railroad Commission, creating a separate and uniquely Texas regulatory gap. Both the PUCT and RR Commission have been under Republican leadership for nearly two decades.i

As to the specifics of the hupocrisy. For years, Cruz has passionately defended Texas’ decision to secede from the national energy grid decades ago and deregulate its wholesale electricity market which he called a “model” for the nation. Today, Cruz has been demanding the that Texas regulators “act swiftly” to protect ratepayers who signed up for cheap energy contracts and now want to be insulated from their decisions. He also wants FEMA money for Texas to help pay the elctricity bills. In economics, thats called “socializing” costs so that taxpayers around the country pay for the stupidity of Texans who signed “market-rate” contracts. In Texas, thats called personal responsibility.

Huju: Exactly the opposite. The term “political hypocrisy” is a bit of an oxymoron. All politicians have some standard deviation between their “stated” positions and their words and actions. We’ve had a long-history of “pro-life” politicians voting against funding for a wide range of critical health and supplemental food assistance programs which unquestionably are matters of life/death to the most vulnerable populations. We have an even longer history of “green” politicians flying around in private jets, living in huge energy-efficient homes, and driving low-mileage cars. The only difference is one of degree.
In some cases, having a politician out-of-town during a major weather even is a net POSITIVE to the local population since it allows the professionals to do their job w/o political interference.

Was watching a bit of the FED/Powell economic testimony during a really boring WebEx call this AM and was reminded there are still some really principled politicians but sadly they are a nearly extinct species. Specifically, I was listening to Pat Toomey (R-PA) who is sadly not seeking reelection. He has always been true to his small government libertarian principles and this AM was no exception as he very respectfully pushed back on Powell’s insistence that the Federal Reserve needed to continue expanding its mission statement into areas more appropriate for congress/fiscal policy than for a central bank. I find him to be a real mensch and also reminded myself of his recent vote on impeachment. I don’t agree with him on many policy issues but respect him more than many of the Dems.

ENS -“Nothing more needs to be added beyond the title of this post. Guy never missed a chance to dump on democrats who took vacations, yet when Texas faces a major catastrophe he is on the way to Cancun. I guess, “let them eat cake.””

The reason this DemonCrat started this topic because he made a Common Sense Solution to all the problems with the 2020 Presidential election!

“Joint Statement from Senators Cruz, Johnson, Lankford, Daines, Kennedy, Blackburn, Braun, Senators-Elect Lummis, Marshall, Hagerty, Tuberville
    January 2, 2021 | 202-228-7561
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), and Mike Braun (R-Ind.), and Senators-Elect Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), and Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) issued the following statement in advance of the Electoral College certification process on January 6, 2021:
“America is a Republic whose leaders are chosen in democratic elections. Those elections, in turn, must comply with the Constitution and with federal and state law.
“When the voters fairly decide an election, pursuant to the rule of law, the losing candidate should acknowledge and respect the legitimacy of that election. And, if the voters choose to elect a new office-holder, our Nation should have a peaceful transfer of power.
“The election of 2020, like the election of 2016, was hard fought and, in many swing states, narrowly decided. The 2020 election, however, featured unprecedented allegations of voter fraud, violations and lax enforcement of election law, and other voting irregularities.
“Voter fraud has posed a persistent challenge in our elections, although its breadth and scope are disputed. By any measure, the allegations of fraud and irregularities in the 2020 election exceed any in our lifetimes.
“And those allegations are not believed just by one individual candidate. Instead, they are widespread. Reuters/Ipsos polling, tragically, shows that 39% of Americans believe ‘the election was rigged.’ That belief is held by Republicans (67%), Democrats (17%), and Independents (31%).
“Some Members of Congress disagree with that assessment, as do many members of the media.
“But, whether or not our elected officials or journalists believe it, that deep distrust of our democratic processes will not magically disappear. It should concern us all. And it poses an ongoing threat to the legitimacy of any subsequent administrations.
“Ideally, the courts would have heard evidence and resolved these claims of serious election fraud. Twice, the Supreme Court had the opportunity to do so; twice, the Court declined.
“On January 6, it is incumbent on Congress to vote on whether to certify the 2020 election results. That vote is the lone constitutional power remaining to consider and force resolution of the multiple allegations of serious voter fraud.
“At that quadrennial joint session, there is long precedent of Democratic Members of Congress raising objections to presidential election results, as they did in 1969, 2001, 2005, and 2017. And, in both 1969 and 2005, a Democratic Senator joined with a Democratic House Member in forcing votes in both houses on whether to accept the presidential electors being challenged.
“The most direct precedent on this question arose in 1877, following serious allegations of fraud and illegal conduct in the Hayes-Tilden presidential race. Specifically, the elections in three states-Florida, Louisiana, and South Carolina-were alleged to have been conducted illegally.
“In 1877, Congress did not ignore those allegations, nor did the media simply dismiss those raising them as radicals trying to undermine democracy. Instead, Congress appointed an Electoral Commission-consisting of five Senators, five House Members, and five Supreme Court Justices-to consider and resolve the disputed returns.
“We should follow that precedent. To wit, Congress should immediately appoint an Electoral Commission, with full investigatory and fact-finding authority, to conduct an emergency 10-day audit of the election returns in the disputed states. Once completed, individual states would evaluate the Commission’s findings and could convene a special legislative session to certify a change in their vote, if needed.
“Accordingly, we intend to vote on January 6 to reject the electors from disputed states as not ‘regularly given’ and ‘lawfully certified’ (the statutory requisite), unless and until that emergency 10-day audit is completed.
“We are not naïve. We fully expect most if not all Democrats, and perhaps more than a few Republicans, to vote otherwise. But support of election integrity should not be a partisan issue. A fair and credible audit-conducted expeditiously and completed well before January 20-would dramatically improve Americans’ faith in our electoral process and would significantly enhance the legitimacy of whoever becomes our next President. We owe that to the People.
“These are matters worthy of the Congress, and entrusted to us to defend. We do not take this action lightly. We are acting not to thwart the democratic process, but rather to protect it. And every one of us should act together to ensure that the election was lawfully conducted under the Constitution and to do everything we can to restore faith in our Democracy”

    “Pat Toomey”

And old style conservative. And willing to risk his political career for principle: he and Manchin tried to get a gin control bill through Congress. No wonder the Trumpies passionately hate him.

Sen. Ted Cruz also visited Israel Sunday and posted images of a bombed-out home following Israel’s 11-day war with Hamas.

‘Heartbreaking,’ Cruz wrote, in a comment he attached to a picture of the bombed out vestiges of a home where he said the caregiver to an elderly woman was killed by a Hamas rocket attack.

‘Countless times, I’ve seen a Mezuzah hanging on a door frame. This is the first time I’ve seen one on a home bombed by terrorists. A Hamas rocket killed the caretaker of the elderly lady who lived here in Ashkelon, in southern Israel. This is all that remains,’ Cruz wrote.

‘Here’s her walker,’ Cruz wrote in a subsequent post, which showed a walker and a fan atop a pile of rubble.

Give me friends like Cruz any day of the week.

Ted Cruz is a righteous gentile. He exemplifies Noahide values and has been a consistent supporter of the Jewish people. What was he supposed to do in a snowstorm? He would just have been in the way. As for his father, CTL. you owe him a public apology. FYI, he was granted political asylum in 1961 following the expiration of his student visa. After arriving in the US with no knowledge of English he earned degrees in mathematics and chemical engineering from the University of Texas in four years. He later was transferred to Calgary by his employer, an oil company. BTW, ICE was not formed until 2002 with the establishment of the Homeland Security Agency. Shame on you! You should check your facts before you post, especially as you are having many senior moments.

RE, so? After the primaries, the losers almost always support the party’s choice. Trump, in fact, gave conservatives just about everything on their wish list.
