I was recently at one of the larger NYC Hospitals and they have a mincha minyan daily, there were about 60+ frum medical professionals who were part of the minyan, yarmulke and all [and a few garels too], I have seen frum Judges, I know there are a few frum members of NYPD, on the flip side I saw a Chasidisher man drive a garbage truck.
I know a lot has changed in the 20, 30, 40 years, I was wondering who has seen frum people in jobs that would have never happened in years past.Video game tester.

Why do you think that the medical profession is unusual for frum people?
Yay, the number of frum girls becoming PAs has very much increased. Makes sense as it pays well with flexible hours. Great for a frum mother.
Ballet pianist. I know someone who got a heter for this, but decided not to use it while he was single. I presume after he got married, it did not work out either.
@commonsaychel I don’t agree. I know of many many older frum people who are doctors and nurses. I think it’s just that there are more frum people today than 30 years ago so you see more frum people in medicine.
I know a frum woman who is a professional wine taster. I believe she’s a ba’ales teshuva but she was already considered a major expert in her field and had jobs with some really big wine companies. So she got a heter that she can hold yayin nesech in her mouth and spit it out as long as the purpose is for work and not enjoyment.
Yseribius: Someone else told me he got a heter to taste treif meat, as he was a professional restaurant reviewer, so long he spits out the meat.

While hiking in the Pacific Northwest last summer, the hiking trail took us along a heavily wooded ridgeline that came out into a open grassy meadow with rows of “boxes”. It turned out to be a fairly large commercial bee hive operation run by a frum couple that both produced honey as well as renting out their hives to local farms for pollination purposes. At least at my end, the first time I’ve seen a beekeeper in a Tallis katan.

No. It may have been a Borselino……actually, just the beekeeper “hood” that drapes over the shoulder, not the full protective long-sleeve coveralls that I would have imagined was required to work anywhere near a hive.> I know of many many older frum people who are doctors and nurses.
indeed, a couple of decades ago, a friend went for an interview to a major NY hospital in a kippah, etc. The doctor he walked around with – who did not even “look Jewish” – at some point poured a cup of water, went with him into a small room, closed the door, took kippah out of his pocket, said shehakol …
how do female doctors handle crazy med school and rotation schedules while having a family? any clues? The only one I saw have husbands who (even pre-covid) were able to spend lots of time at home – SW develpers or PhD students. (My daughters for this reason are looking into near-medical fields that are less demanding).
Someone in my neighborhood is a beekeeper. Just a hobby, though, it’s not his career.

common, I hear you, but in that case the doctor did not give hard time to the “frummer” youngele, but turned out to be even “frummer” just in the closet (literally).
