Police Alerted As Tzefas Chief Rabbi Receives Death Threats

Police have been alerted that Tzefas Chief Sephardi Rabbi, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita, has received death threats on the phone surrounding his open opposition to toeiva, the parade and the lifestyle as the parade is scheduled to take place in Yerushalayim R”L on Thursday.

The threats surround an interview the rav gave to Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) last week against the toeiva community, which he feels is ill and those who follow this lifestyle are in need of care. Rabbi Eliyahu feels the threats are a form of terrorism.

In addition, the rav’s phone number was publicized by persons opposing his view and he has since received dozens of angry and some threatening calls, with at least ten calls from the same number.

Police on Thursday morning 11 Av report the investigation is receiving high priority.
