(VIDEOS AND PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Teva Pharmaceuticals employees on Sunday morning 29 Kislev enjoyed the backing of the Histadrut National Labor Federation, which shut down the entire country for four hours, in a showing of solidarity. Teva’s management announced the planned firing of employees worldwide, including over 3,000 in Israel.

Teva employees shut down the Har Chotzvim, Jerusalem facility on Sunday, not for a mere four hours, but for the day. They can be seen protesting and blocking Golda Meir Boulevard during the Sunday morning rush hour, blocking streets and in some cases, burning tires.

In his opening remarks to the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu added, “This week I will meet – along with the Finance Minister and the Economy Minister – with the CEO of Teva. I spoke with him last week and I told him that our first goal is to minimize the blow to workers. This is the first thing. The second thing, of course, is to do everything possible to prevent the closure of plants in Jerusalem. The third thing is to ensure that Teva remains in the State of Israel. It employs thousands of workers. It started as an Israeli company and we want it to remain as an Israeli company. We will use various means at our disposal to try and achieve these goals.”

Teva employees also protest at Ashdod facility.

At about 10:00am, they closed the area of the entrance to Jerusalem by the Chords Bridge.
