Satmar Rebbe Turns to US President Obama to Assist Yemenite Jews

sat.jpgFollowing the murder of Yemenite Jew R’ Moshe Al-Nahari HY”D, the difficult plight and threats against Yemen’s small Jewish community has become increasingly evident to the international community.

As such, the Satmar Rebbe Shlita from Kiryas Yoel has turned to newly-elected American President Barak Obama to assist the Yemenite Jewish community.

During recent weeks, the plight of Yemen’s Jewish community has become increasingly precarious and today, there are growing concerns for their safety. Some of them have decided to leave the country immediately, fearing for the lives. At a fundraising event for mosdos Satmar last Thursday, the Rebbe made mention of this as well.

The Rebbe had words of praise for those supporting mosdos torah but stated at present, there is something more pressing, the need to save the 300 members of the Yemenite Jewish community. The Rebbe reminded the Kehila that during WWII an appeal was made to American Jewry to save the Hungarian Jewish community but they were unable to do so. “Today we can save them and we must do so,” stated the Rebbe, turning to Britain’s Jewish community as well, calling upon them to adopt the Yemenite community.

The reason the Rebbe turned to British Jewry is due to the restrictions placed on immigration following 9/11, hoping the British community may succeed while the American Jews may not. The Rebbe turned to President Barak Obama in the form of a letter to possibly make a special allowance for the Yemenite community, a move that would save their lives.

Meetings are taking place in the United States between admorim and rabbonim towards finding a solution to save the remaining Yemenite Jewish community.

The Yemenites do not want to go to Israel. They unfortunately had a bad experience with immigration to Israel the last time around.

  2. Yemenite jews don’t want their children to be subject to shmad rachmono Litzlon as was the case many years ago when they went to Eretz Yisroel .

  3. Applause R’ Aharon for not asking Isreal to take them in. I personally know of a family that was smadt over there the zionist may they be ashamed of themselves forced them to be non religious!

  4. Reb Aharon, In his speech said that the history of yemenite jews landing in Israel is that most of them became secular therefore it is imperative to bring them out to England or the U.S. where the history has shown that they remained religous as you can see in our community here in Lakewood etc,

  5. Read the whole story about how the secular Israeli gov’t defrauded the Yemenite immigrants in Ben Hecht’s book: Perfidy.

  6. Jo, The flatbush Sefradic community and the Mir yeshiva on Ocean Pky have always been the address for freedom for Iranian Jews. (never heard of Satmar in those endeavors)

  7. Stan, the Satmar funded organization Rav Tov has been involved in the rescue of Yidden from Iran and their establishment here in the US in a frum fashion.

  8. Can someone get the true source when and were Rabbi Ahron met with President Obama.

We have a report from a high ranking officer at the U.S. Dept. of State and its documented that about 10 months ago, still under the Bush administartion. Some top officials of the US State Department met in washington DC with some Brooklyn rabbies together with some Jews from Yemen about finding a way to open the door for Yemen Jews. Much before the Murder of Moshe Nhari, the US government knew the danger and they were very positive to the problems. They worked under closed doors for months and months to get this aproved. That was all done under the Bush administration.
Many Families have been processed already by the US political office in Sanaa, Yemen for refugee
    status.

  9. #9, you are probably thinking of GENOCIDE IN THE HOLY land not PERFIDY, which had nothing to do with Yemenites. I’m wondering if anyone here believes that the conditions in Israel today for religious immigrants are the same as in 1950?

  10. What many don’t know is that Satmar in some cases takes the kids away from their parents once them get them to KJ or other places. It’s been well documented. In fact, there’s an entire documentary on the subject called “In Satmar Custody.” Look it up, you’ll be very surprised.

  11. Tavoi Alav Bracha! He cares! Is all we can do to someone who cares is criticize? If he can do it, great! If the Roshei Yeshiva at Mir can do it, great! It needs to get done and soon! Perhaps we all should pitch in by calling the White House phone line or eMailing president@whitehouse. This is a true Lo sa’amod al dam ray’echo! They’re in real danger!
