Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee Chairman MK Simcha Rothman launched a sharp attack Monday against Supreme Court President Justice Yitzhak Amit amid ongoing High Court hearings over changes to the Judicial Selection Committee.

Speaking on Kan Reshet Bet, Rothman accused Amit of lacking self-awareness and impartiality, saying: “Yitzhak Amit is an arrogant person with no self-awareness. He is a far-left politician.” Rothman also criticized Supreme Court Justices Daphne Barak-Erez and Noam Sohlberg, claiming that some members of the court are acting as political figures rather than neutral judges.

According to Rothman, judges are now deliberating on matters that directly affect their own interests. He warned that if the judiciary becomes increasingly politicized, judicial decisions themselves could eventually be influenced by political considerations.

The remarks came a day after the High Court heard petitions challenging changes to the composition of the Judicial Selection Committee. During the hearing, Justice Amit argued that much of former Israel Bar Association head Efi Naveh’s influence stemmed from politicians and questioned whether increasing political influence over judicial appointments could undermine judicial independence.
