It struck me this morning that there are different expressions in the megila for the גזירה.
First המן plans להשמיד את כל היהודים but only asks permission from אחשוורוש to לאבד. The letters say להשמיד להרוג ולאבד, but מרדכי only tells אסתר about the להשמיד part of it.
I have an idea that I am working on to explain this. Was wondering if anyone else noticed this and what they had to offer as a פשט - פורים תורה or otherwise!

    Question 2:
In פרק ט', we say the ten sons of Haman were hung.
A few pesukinm later we mention how Esther asks Achashveirush for an extra day for the people of Shushan to fight and to kill the ten sons of Haman.
But we already said they were hung?

After Mordechai told Esther that is she didn't go to the king the jews would be saved in another way but her family would be annihilated, what right did she have to go to the king?

Plays the aeolian harp by air

Le'abed is the effect. Haman needed permission from Achashveirosh to empty out his land. The Gemara talks about those who would have killed us out but didn't want to be seen as a sliced up kingdom. Achashveirosh wouldn't really mind having the Jews killed. It is losing subjects that would be the issue.

Le'hashmid means to wipe out. That says all you need to know if you are trying to be specific. When arousing the public he used all descriptions: wipe-out, kill and decimate.

Re: Hanging of Haman's sons - The Megillah tells us they were hanged (almost as an aside), THEN goes on to recount the actual events leading to the hanging.
