It struck me this morning that there are different expressions in the megila for the ?????.
First ??? plans ?????? ?? ?? ??????? but only asks permission from ???????? to ????. The letters say ?????? ????? ?????, but ????? only tells ???? about the ?????? part of it.
I have an idea that I am working on to explain this. Was wondering if anyone else noticed this and what they had to offer as a ??? – ????? ???? or otherwise!

February 28, 2013 1:51 am at 1:51 am #933307HaLeiViParticipantLe’abed is the effect. Haman needed permission from Achashveirosh to empty out his land. The Gemara talks about those who would have killed us out but didn’t want to be seen as a sliced up kingdom. Achashveirosh wouldn’t really mind having the Jews killed. It is losing subjects that would be the issue.
Le’hashmid means to wipe out. That says all you need to know if you are trying to be specific. When arousing the public he used all descriptions: wipe-out, kill and decimate.
February 28, 2013 6:21 pm at 6:21 pm #933308oomisParticipantRe: Hanging of Haman’s sons – The Megillah tells us they were hanged (almost as an aside), THEN goes on to recount the actual events leading to the hanging.
