“I become very frustrated when people blame, or place responsibility on, the system. What’s the system? Is it the community’s selfless people who are already doing more than they’re able to do, with less funding than is needed to succeed? Or is it the people who are lamenting that the system isn’t doing enough?

The moment you press the button to start the microwave, you know it was a mistake. You hear a high pitched scream so deep that you could drown in it. The sound surrounds you, and so does the guilt. You are responsible for the destruction of millions of bacteria. Only then does it dawn on you that bacteria have neither lungs nor larynxes. The scream is your own.

I would think it would benefit everyone who posted here to reread some of the posts that angered you so much and see, when removed, if it really said what you thought/accused it of saying. I believe there were more foaming mouths responding to things they assumed they read then what they actually read. And that prejudice we carry, I believe, is even sadder that the subject at hand. — Mod 29October 19, 2017 1:57 am at 1:57 am #1386701

In The River, the Kettle and The Bird, Rav Aharon Feldman
quotes the Vilna Gaon as saying (commentary on Shir haShirim 5:2)
that there are 4 basic causes of love – we love someone who 1) gives us
physical pleasure, 2) assists us in accomplishing our goals, or 3) in whom
we recognize noble qualities of character. 4) We may also love someone
for no conscious reason other than that we sense that they love us.March 5, 2018 6:32 am at 6:32 am #1480848
It is by no means sufficient that an officer should be capable. …
He should be as well a gentleman of liberal education, refined manners,
punctilious courtesy, and the nicest sense of personal honor. …
No meritorious act of a subordinate should escape his attention,
even if the reward be only one word of approval. Conversely,
he should not be blind to a single fault in any subordinate.

“To put yourself up, do not put others down”, maybe it is implied in לא תעלה במעלות על מזבחי אשר לא תגלה ערותך עליו if you elevate yourself, don’t do it in a way that shows your shame. The Ohr Hachaim says on לא תשא את שם ה אלקיך לשוא, don’t use the name of Hashem to elevate yourself. Don’t make yourself more religious than you are to elevate yourself.March 6, 2018 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #1483126

Safety is a feeling that no bad things will happen. Security avoids things to happen
that you don’t want to. The police keep public safety, which stops crimes happen.
Safety hats protect the head from injury. Houses provide safety from the weather.
