cra1.jpgManhattan – The NYPD says two robbery suspects made a deadly mistake as they attempted to get away from the scene of a crime early Tuesday morning.

Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, police say, officers responded to a report of a confirmed armed robbery inside the 49th Street and 7th Avenue subway station. According to police, a male was assaulting a female at West 52nd Street and Broadway.

The officers exited their vehicle and approached the suspect and the victim. The suspect then jumped into a waiting vehicle that took off eastbound on West 52nd Street. The vehicle then ran a stop light and collided with a private sanitation truck.

The female driver was removed to Cornell Medical Center in critical condition. The male suspect was pronounced dead on arrival. The victim of the assault was transported to Saint Luke’s in stable condition. The two drivers of the sanitation truck are expected to be released with only minor injuries.
