Stolen Sefer Torah From Erlau Bais Medrash Is Returned

(Monday, September 24th, 2012)

While details are not being released as the police investigation into the case continues, the Sefer Torah stolen from the Erlau Beis Medrash in the Katamon neighborhood of Yerushalayim on Rosh Hashanah has been returned.

HaMevaser reports that what has been learned is a day after the decision was made to publicize the theft a man contacted the gabbai, identifying himself as a middle man who deals with the Arab thieves. A deal was made by which an unspecified ransom was to be paid towards getting the Torah back.

The gabbai went to meet with the intermediary and as the deal was about to go down, a police patrol saw the man with a Torah and realizing what had occurred in the community, they stopped him. After checking the Sefer Torah police learned it was the one stolen from the beis medrash.
