A body thought to be that of missing Yeshiva student Aaron Sofer was just found in the Jerusalem Forest – the same forest where Aaron was reported to have gone missing last Friday while hiking.
The body has been taken by Zaka and police for further examination and to determine the exact cause of death. It seems that he fell off a cliff while trying to navigate his way out of the forest and that his death was caused by dehydration. There are no signs of violence apparent on his body that would lead to the notion that terror was involved.
Thousands of volunteers searched the forest and other areas the past 6 days, while hundreds of thousands around the globe davened for his safe return.
The parents of Aaaron Sofer had traveled to Israel on Sunday, where they have been working with police and search teams.

This is so sad, boruch dayan emes. I’m pretty sure we learn from this that our gedolim know what they’re talking about (obviously). The government called off the search in the forest and gave up and the Rav Shteinman said we should keep searching there. May the family be comforted.

Regarding what is written above concerning shmiras eynayim, it just boggles the mind that this is what they come up with at such a time- shmiras eynayim, the continuing bizarre fear mongering about women, making women something so bad so evil,, something to fear, almost like the Arabs who put women in Burkahs.. This has never been the case in all Jewish history. Our great leaders wanted us to do Mitzvot, do chesed, be kind to one another to help bring the geulah, to remove sinas Chinam from among us which led to the destruction of the Bais Hamikdash. To keep Shabbos with Joy, and bring others to keep shabbos, to daven with Kavana, to give Tzedakah, to be careful with Shmiras Halashon. This continuing focus on this topic is just bizarre- Jewish women in Bnei Brak and Jewish towns are very Tznius. men are not staring at women. The chareidi world has separated women from men to a degree never seen before in history, yet they won’t leave this topic, when so many 613 Mitzvot need our attention. What is this fear of this generation of yeshiva men being so weak about women? What is this about??
leahleh, please contact your local Rav to explain shmiras eynayim to you. You are so off the mark in thinking that this has anything to do with making women bad and evil, chas v’sholom. Hashem really does know a lot better than you what makes sense…. And so does your Rav.
my friend was in touch with the tehillim hotline for Aaron yesterday and they told her that R. Kanievsky said he was alive in an Arab village. she would never have made this up. if R. Kanievsky had nevuah that he was in an arab village before he was found, that that is what it is. he could have been pushed or killed in some way and left in the forest. they need to go to R. Kanievsky for information. i don’t believe the person on the phone at the tehillim hotline would have said that if it weren’t true. we are dealing with frum people here in the time of a potential tragedy at the time (yesterday morning). i am sure she quoted R. Kanievsky honestly.

Response: Once, after speaking about the severity of the problem of lack of Shmiras Einayim, Rav Eliyahu Lopian Zatzal was approached by a young man who claimed that more emphasis should be put on other subjects which are more relevant to the frum Torah people. “I, for example, don’t find myself having an issue with that, and I’m sure tthat most people of my type don’t either”, claimed this person.
R’ Lopian ZTL responded:
“You are mistaking! The YH knows that this is the one area about which the Torah says “Velo Yera’eh Becho Ervas Dovor, Veshov Meacharecha!”, The one thing which the Torah clearly says, that causes the Shechina to turn away from us, and thus the YH always tries to bring us to fall in this matter. And the one who feels that this is not relevant to him, is all the more in danger, because he is like the ill person who is so ill that he doesn’t even feel that he’s ill anymore!”
And then Rav Elya Lopian added these awesome words – “I am deep into my 70’s, I am weak, and old, I’m almost blind in one eye, and I have been working for most of my life on kedusha, YET, when a good looking woman passes me on the street, the Yetzer Horah, still whispers into my ear “take another look”!, and you, who are young, and strong, with the Yetzer Hora of youth, claim that he leaves you alone????!!!”
I think that any further words are unnecessary.
Yes, all the chessed and joy in mitzvos are so important, and so is shmiras halashon and haeinaiyim. Not that there is anything inherently bad about the lashon that HaShem gave us, but it can lead to saying bad things. And similarly, shmiras haeinaiyim does not at all mean that there is anything bad about anyone created by HaShem, ch”v, men and women included. But for men, the attraction to look and see can lead to inappropriateness, while there is kedusha in shemira.
