Babi Yar Massacre Remembered at Kiev Monument

hol.jpgA ceremony held Sunday memorialized the more than 100,000 Jews killed in the Babi Yar massacre.

Holocaust survivors, Ukrainian Jews, diplomats, and rescuers participated in a ceremony held near the Menorah monument marking the site, just outside of Kiev.

Zina Kalay-Kleitman, the Israeli ambassador to Ukraine; R’ Yaakov Dov Bleich, one of Ukraine’s Chief Rabbis; Felix Mindel, chief of Nativ in Ukraine and Moldova; and other Jewish leaders attended Sunday’s event. Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko and other Ukrainian officials marked the Babi Yar anniversary on Sept. 29  at a nearby monument to all the victims of Babi Yar.
