NYC Council Approves Coney Island Plan

(Wednesday, July 29th, 2009)

astr.jpgIn a vote of 44-to-2, the City Council this afternoon approved a controversial rezoning plan that is expected to change the face of Coney Island.

The plan calls for a new amusement park, high rise apartment buildings and hotels and restaurants. It’s part of the city’s plan to turn the area into a year-round entertainment complex.

Some community groups have criticized the plan, saying it will sanitize the gritty boardwalk area.
