Williamsburg: NYPD Investigating Milk Crate Assault on Jewish Woman as Hate Crime

A Jewish woman was struck in the head with a milk crate by unknown attackers in an incident being investigated as a hate crime, the NYPD said.

The victim, 29, was sitting on a bench in De Hostos Playground at the corner of Walton Street and Harrison Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 25, about 4 p.m. when she was hit, police said.

The woman said she suffered pain and minor bruising to the top right side of her head in the attack, police said.

It was unclear who threw the milk crate, but the victim saw a group of four to five men running southbound on Walton Street shortly after the incident, police said.

Police said she did not hear the group say anything before throwing the crate, and the motivation for the attack was unclear, police added.

    #1 What’s so funny? Why make fun of some one get hit in the head. It’s a crime and it hurts. Some one got hurt.

    When it’s a jewish victim, there’s always a reason not to classify it as a hate crime. Even though, we pretty much know who this group of “men” is. And what their possible (or, probable) motive was. On the other hand, when the “victim” is of a minority, especially, when the “perpetrators” are Jewish or Italian, (white) the motive is always clear. And it is unquestionably classified as a hate crime.
