Dan’s Deals Strikes Again: Glitch Offers First-Class Transatlantic Flights for just $50

1united_2686087bA glitch on a US air carrier’s website led to first-class transatlantic flights being sold for as little as £50 ($75).

People were quick to snap up the “bargain” flights on United Airlines’ website, after the blunder was spotted by a travel blog.

If users to the website changed their host country to Denmark, it was possible to book a round-trip flight between London’s Heathrow airport and Newark’s Liberty International airport for 491 Danish kroner (about $75). The bug also allowed customers to buy cheap tickets to any US destination from Heathrow.

Passengers had to choose first class or business class.

The DansDeals blog advised people to use a card without a foreign transaction fee and to not sign into their United account.

A number of people appeared to be successful in claiming the tickets today before United Airlines spotted the mistake.

A spokesman for the airline said it was looking into the issue and had temporarily suspended sales from the airline’s Denmark website.

  1. What did he do wrong? He saw an error, alerted people, & my kids were able to get great first class tickets (10 I believe) for less than one economy fare. And why not? If You could have done it, Git Meshuge, I’m sure you would have! Thanks, Dan’s Deals!

  2. YAAAY!
Congrats to Dan’s Deals-Not only does he tell everyone how legally steal from the airlines but the Heilge Yeshiva World praises him!
Way to go! You did it!
We made a major kiddush Hashem…and saved money!

  3. If a bank forgets to set the alarm and leaves it’s doors wide open does it give anyone a legal right to steal?
If a company makes a mistake with its pricing, does it give anyone the legal right to take advantage and cause it millions in loses?

  4. Judging from Dan’s HT (hat tip), it was actually another blog that broke the news. United says it’s not honoring the fares.

  5. Ok everyone calm down. If you have a problem with booking these fares then don’t. Also everytime these kind of things happen we tend to have articles like this one that make dan sound as if he is a g-d of deals that makes the come and go as he pleases. I have news for you every other travel blog out there (yes there are others) were blogging about this yesterday so take it easy. Also as much as people don’t like to hear this dan is a business man he makes money off of his links on his site as much as im sure he cares about hidden and wants them to get good deals it’s not a chesed project

  6. but he is a Lubavitcher Yid and should be held to higher standard other than leagl loophole chussid.
Its one thing to compile all deals from sites or even to sell ad space-its another to profit off others’ mistakes and hold seminars where he teachers women how to sign up for numerous credit cards, purchase, transfer points, cancel and then start another one. Hmmmm…I wonder why we Jews suffer the stereotype of money hungry, money grubbing cheap people.

  7. git meshiga no shuychus, stealing from a goy is asur but to’us akkum is muttar, so al pi choishen mishpat it MAY have been mutar.
but it is forsure not yashrus and is a big chillul hashem…

  8. “to’us akkum is muttar”: This is when the nochri does not know about his mistake; which is not the case here. Here it is assur for several reasons.
