Baltimore: Kollel Man Robbed at Gunpoint Outside Rabbi Weiss’s Shul While Walking into Maariv

bA resident of the Baltimore Jewish community was robbed at gunpoint, as he was walking to Shul on Tuesday evening.

Sources tell YWN that the victim was walking into Maariv when he was approached by 3 African American males wearing hoods.

The suspects brandished a weapon while instructing the kollel man to empty his pockets and hand over his phone and wallet.

911 was called and Shomrim members were dispatched to assist in locating the suspects as they fled toward the Fallstaff Manor Apartments directly behind the Shul.

One of the assailants was described as wearing a blue sweatshirt. Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident.

This incident comes as the Baltimore Jewish community is on high alert after a rash of robberies and burglaries have plagued the community. Sources tell YWN that  Baltimore Shomrim have received a much higher call volume in the last 2 weeks and additional units have been patrolling the area to further assist the Baltimore police in apprehending the perpetrators and to restore calm to the community.

Baltimore Shomrim urge the community to be on the look out for all suspicious vehicles, people, and activity and to immediately call 911 and Baltimore Shomrim at 410.358.9999.

  1. Last night I was out at 8:00 pm, not so late, and saw my gas tank light went on, but I was afraid to go to gas station to fill up in the dark. I didn’t. Life is not anymore what it used to be.

  2. Jews need to get out of Baltimore. The community is being terrorized, and thanks to Maryland’s gun laws, self-defense is almost impossible. The police can’t be everywhere all the time to prevent crimes, and it’s possible that even when they come after the crime they won’t catch the person. You couldn’t pay me to live there.

  3. Oh please, E120..unfortunately we are in golus. a few people were viciously beaten in Flatbush recently,as well incidents in other places. These things can happen anywhere. Of course, people should still be careful and vigilant..

  4. LOL. Baltimore is the safest city in America with a large Jewish population. Seasons is about to open here – you think they are worried? Per capita, the Jewish neighborhoods in Baltimore are much safer than Boro Park, Williamsburg or Lakewood. Housing prices are super low, price of living is super low and wages are high.

  5. Did I say Jews davka *should* be living in New York and New Jersey? No. So don’t say it’s less safe there to “prove” that Baltimore is safe.
You know where else housing prices and cost of living are low? Most red states. And they also have much lower taxes. People won’t move there because the Jewish communities aren’t as big, but the reason they aren’t big is because people won’t move. When we hear about the flourishing of Torah life in America it’s because NY/NJ didn’t used to be what they are now.
As to “we’re in golus”, I’m sure some Jews said the same thing when they started forcing us into ghettos in preparation for the Holocaust. And no, these things don’t happen if you’re armed. The criminal runs away or gets injured. And you can’t prevent thugs by being careful, unless careful means never leaving your house. Where is the limit?

When mashiach comes, people will tell him to shut up, keep his head down, and stop arguing with the goyim.

  6. BaltimoreMaven: Baltimore’s Jewish community is a good place to live, despite some problems, if you must continue to live among Eisav.

To say it’s the “safest city in America” makes you lose credibility.
