Doctors And Rabbonim in Eretz Yisrael Call on Parents to Learn CPR

Senior physicians have signed a proclamation along with poskim in Eretz Yisrael calling on the tzibur, parents, to learn CPR and basic first aid in light of the many cases of infant deaths R”L.

Under the banner of the “משפחה בטוחה” (Safe Family) campaign, doctors who consulted with poskim are working with Ichud (United) Hatzalah to teach parents CPR and basic first aid, at no charge. Among the rabbonim shlita who signed the proclamation are HaGaon Rav Yitzchak Zilberstein, HaGaon Rav Yehuda Silman and HaGaon Rav Yisrael Rosenberg (Ravaad Bnei Brak).

The doctors feel it is incumbent on any and every parents to learn the basic life-saving skills to be prepared if chas v’sholom one is required to utilize these skills.

The program is operating in chareidi areas, sponsored by Nurofen® for children, free of charge. The actual classes are being run by Ichud Hatzalah. In stage two, the program will expand to non-chareidi areas. Ichud Hatzalah stresses the entire program is being run un rabbinical supervision.

  1. This is very important and the letter is very correct. Its something you should know but hope you never have to use. Just to let people know, there is a large difference between how infant CPR and how adult/child CPR is performed. I hope the course teaches how to do it for both. I also think that they should include choking first aid. Lastly, every home should have a “first aid for children” book, although obviously it’s not a substitute for the pediatrician or urgent care/ER.
