DEATH TOLL RISES TO 6: Police Discarding Reports That Crash May Have Been an Act of Terror


z1At this stage of the investigation into the fatal accident in which a number 402 bus slammed into a parked truck on the Jerusalem – Tel Aviv Highway in the direction of Tel Aviv, police are no longer thinking it may have been an act of terror.

There were rumors earlier that stated the eastern Jerusalem resident who parked the truck on the shoulder left it protruding into the right lane of the highway amid the realization what would occur. Police have discarded this theory and it now appears the accident was the result of driver error by the bus driver. The bus driver is in police custody. Police hope to have the details of the accident worked out by morning.

The Egged driver apparently did not realize the truck was partially blocking his lane and the right side of the bus caught the left wide of the truck carrying building materials, peeling away the right side of the bus.

As reported earlier, the 402 bus from Jerusalem to Bnei Brak left the capital at 17:40, striking the tractor near Latrun. It is reported that at least one child is among the six fatalities R”L. Three persons are fighting for their lives among the injured.
