Tel Aviv City Council: Calls To Oust Rabbonim Who Expressed Support For Rabbi Levinstein

1Councilmen serving on the Tel Aviv City Council and members of the ‘Chofsheet’ party have turned to Minister of Religious Services to fire three rabbonim serving in Tel Aviv along with 300 others nationwide who expressed support for Rabbi Yigal Levinstein.

Rabbi Yuval Alfort (Head of the Yaffo Torah garin), Rabbi Daniel Miller (Rosh Yeshivat Aviv Hatorah) and Rabbi Asher Shimon (Tel Aviv neighborhood rav) expressed support for the letter released to back Rabbi Levinstein, which was signed by 300 rabbonim. The letter was released after Rabbi Levinstein came under fire for speaking out at an assembly against the IDF Education Corps and the toeiva community.

Councilman Miki Gitzin of the ‘Chofsheet’ party sent a letter to Minister David Azoulai and the director-general of the minister, Oded Flus, explain rabbonim who are public servants cannot act contrary to the law or speak out against it, and their backing of Rabbi Levinstein is nothing less than incitement. Gitzin warns the minister if he does not act, then legal actions will be the next step.

Among the hundreds of rabbonim who signed include Tzfat Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita, Jerusalem Chief Rabbi Aryeh Stern Shlita, Petach Tikvah Chief Rabbi Micha Levy Shlita, Shomron Chief Rabbi Elyakim Levanon Shlita, Rosh Yeshivat Ateret Kohanim Rabbi Shlomo Aviner Shlita, Rav of Yishuv Shilo Rabbi Elchanan Bin-Nun Shlita, and Rosh Yeshivat Hesder Sderot Rabbi David Fendel Shlita.

  1. The councilman should be told, it’s the court who are acting contrary to the law. If Israel is a Jewish State, the law of the State is the Torah and all the judges who allowed the immoral filth parade to pass should be ousted.
