IDF Chareidi Soldier Degraded Physically And Emotionally While His Peers Looked On And Laughed

idffWhile politicians continue flying the ‘share the burden’ flag and the IDF insists it has programs tailored to the needs of the chareidi community, Israel Radio veteran military correspondent Carmela Menashe reported on Monday evening 18 Menachem Av that a chareidi soldier has fallen victim to physical and emotional abuse by members of his own unit. He was physically assaulted as his fellow combatants looked on in laughter. The soldier, who is now on leave, refused to return to his unit but has been instructed to do so despite the incident. One of the soldiers responsible for the offense has been sent to 20 days’ lockup.

Menashe explains the soldier no longer wishes to meet with his fellow soldiers, yet alone serve with them. She adds that she was bewildered to learn military police were not brought into the picture. The soldier’s commander told him he would not honor his transfer request.

Menashe adds in her report that “they all saw what was taking place yet they looked on and laughed while no one stepped forward to assist the victim”.

The soldier’s father explained the incident and how members of his unit decided to target him, adding his son has grown accustomed to being the unit’s punching bag as they regularly humiliate him.

Menashe broke the story via twitter saying “If the victim was a female soldier clearly the attackers would be placed on trial and paid dearly for their actions. I do not understand the commander, how they are leaving him alone without coming to his side, especially a chareidi soldier who is so unaccustomed to such behavior”.

  1. It is about time that we all realize that the establishment DOES NOT REALLY WANT haredim, or even datiim in the army.

It defeats the whole purpose of secular Zionism, which is the redefinition and secularization of Judaism and the Jewish people.

If the we really want to solve the draft problem, we should all volunteer for active service; apply for all Haredi yeshivot to become hesder, etc., etc.

I once suggested this to a very senior IDF officer and he turned pale with fright! (He thought that I had the authority and that I really meant it!)

Try to volunteer en masse, and you will all be sent home, never to be bothered again!

  2. The whole “share the burden”mantra is just a cover for the desire to secularize the religious .NO religious Jew whether he’s learning in yeshiva or not belongs in the IDF which is controlled by the vicious anti-religious.

  3. There are too many missing pieces in this story. Please refrain from forming an opinion until there are more facts.

  4. Very good. Charedim don’t belong there. This article reminds me of the infamous picture of WWII where men in talis & tefillin are surrounded by Germans mocking them. Thank you, Chilonim, you did the right thing at the right place for the right people. I agree with you, Chilonim, with the message you portray. Continue attacking Chareidim and mocking them until all the Chareidim will wake up and realize that Gedolei Hador were right all along that they have no business stepping foot in the Shmad Army.

  5. Guys, my closest friend Sariel Birnbaum, a talmid at Yeshivat Gush Etzion, was killed in the Yom Kippur War in Ramat Hagolan. The Yeshiva boys fought like lions in the war. Please don’t say that the dati soldiers don’t belong. And in his tank were found his kipa and a small masechet Sukkot…..

  6. Charedim serve in charedi units. I have no idea what (if anything) happened but its pretty clear that any issue would have been between charedi soldiers.
