Ex NY Assemblyman Sentenced In Wire Fraud Case

chnA former New York assemblyman has been sentenced in a federal wire fraud case.

The Daily News reports Tuesday that former Assemblyman Jimmy K. Meng of Queens was sentenced to serve a month in jail, pay a $30,000 fine and perform 750 hours of community service.

He’ll also serve four months of house arrest after his jail sentence.

Meng admitted in court last November that he had solicited $80,000 from a friend facing criminal charges. He falsely claimed that he could use that money to bribe prosecutors.

The Democrat served in the state Assembly in 2005 and 2006.

His daughter, Grace Meng, recently became the first Asian-American elected to Congress from New York.
