An 18-year-old yeshivah bochur was arrested in the pre-dawn hours of Friday morning, transferred to the military police, and later sentenced to prison.
The incident began when the bochur, a talmid of the Mishkan David Yeshivah in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem, was on the way home for Shabbos. The car he was in stopped at a gas station near Ma’ale Adumim, and patrol officers approached and asked him for his identification. When the officers realized he was a “draft dodger,” he was arrested and transferred to military police, who placed him in the Anatot detention facility.
On Friday morning, he was transferred to Military Prison 10 in Kfar Yona near Beit Lid.
Upon learning of the arrest, the Am Kadosh organization intervened to assist him, and Adv. Shlomo Hadad was appointed to represent him.
He was brought to trial before a military judicial officer shortly before Shabbos and sentenced to 10 days in prison.
Sources in Peleg Yerushalmi announced on Motzei Shabbos that they plan to hold demonstrations in protest of the arrest but did not provide further details.
