Massive Anti-IDF Draft Demonstration To Be Held In London On Thursday

Following the major Satmar rally in Manhattan against Israel’s proposed draft law, London’s chasidish kehilla is now preparing for its own large-scale demonstration. Thousands of residents from across London’s frum neighborhoods are expected to gather Thursday afternoon outside the Israeli Embassy to voice their opposition to the ongoing efforts in the Knesset to advance a new conscription law.

The demonstration is being organized jointly by all major chasidish kehillos, with participation expected from Satmar, Belz, Vizhnitz, Bobov, and Ger. Both Satmar factions have agreed to unite for this protest, lending unusual weight and symbolism to the event. Organizers also noted that the gathering is set to take place on the 21st of Kislev, long marked as the “Yom Hatzalah” of the Satmar Rebbe, Rav Yoel Teitelbaum zt”l.

The call to protest follows a request from the Badatz of the Eidah HaChareidis in Yerushalayim, which issued a strongly worded letter urging kehillos abroad to join the outcry against any legislation that would compel bnei Torah in Eretz Yisroel to serve in what they termed “the army of destruction.” In response, the rabbonim of London’s Badatz Kehillas Kadathia issued their own letter encouraging full participation, stressing that the hour demands a united and public stance.

Local rabbonim across London have signed on to the initiative, encouraging all men and bochurim to attend. Yeshivos affiliated with Ger have already confirmed that they will be sending their bochurim, and organizers say buses will be running from all major chareidi centers to accommodate the large turnout.

The demonstration follows the massive Manhattan protest outside the Israeli Consulate two months ago, which drew international attention. With the draft bill continuing to advance through Israel’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, London’s kehillos say it is their responsibility to raise their voices in solidarity.

The atzeres is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. London time. Community leaders anticipate a peaceful but forceful show of unity, expressing the long-held position that the chareidi community worldwide stands firmly against any legislation that would require bnei Torah in Eretz Yisroel to abandon their learning and join military service.

  1. while jews in london are attacked in the streets, the chasidish kehillos, not to be outdone by szatmar, organize a massive “chickens for kfc” demonstration. bravo.

  2. everyone needs to go out, not just london.. this should be in every community at the same time with all joining

ha’acheichem yeitzu lamilchama ve’atem teishvu po.

    the milchama for yahadus

  3. No. It is a shame. It is a Chilul Hashem. Chazal tell us that each shevet is a big boy. We can nevr get involved in their problem, EY has its own Gedolim. They can bring shalom amongst themselves. Whatever we do causes Chilul Hashem and further machlokes. Stop it and learn a daf of gemarah instead. Our Torah and Halacha will protect us and not these public stupid gatherings!

  4. 10 years ago few would have supported it believing shtadlonus would work. Now in 5786 we can see Peleg had a point, the state and judiciary will stop at nothing before forcing chreidim into a system that is poretz geder day in and day out even in chareidi army units..

Note we all see R Shmuel was right. It was a geziras shmad and we all need to daven, demonstrate/fight and plan carefully as taught in last week’s sedra.

Shame no coaches organised from Golders Green and Edgware areas too.

  5. So Ahava or better “Sinah” you know better than ALL the chosheve Rabbonim and Gedolim of London and EY…
Why are they persecuting the Chareidim and not the Arabs? because they know anything against the Arabs including murderous terrorists will instantly cause a global outcry, but with the chareidim they are safe; and that needs to change.
We need to tell the world, that 1M chareidim a persecuted in Israel like the Ughurs in China.

  6. What about the Mitzvah in the Torah to cry out during times of turmoil and tribulations? When Jews see a threat to their way of life and especially one led by political witch Hunters like you see here, all you can do is protest. We don’t only have to respect leftist protest

  7. ahava:
This is at the behest of gedolim in E”Y. There is an entire tractate in the talmud, Taanis, that discusses things like making a public prayer gathering, like what they are doing here.

    shloime (and others):
In the Torah, which you really should try to learn, and at least theoretically agree with the Torah, we are told to gather together to pray. Surely you are familiar with one example, as in the Purim story, in which Queen Esther told Mordechai “Go and gather the Jews…”

Gathering together has at least two purposes. One is to pray to G-d for salvation. The other is to publicly demonstrate that we do not agree with the evildoers. This is a tremendous – and Torah-required – Kiddush Hashem.

  8. What exactly is the faux chilul hashem idiots are claiming? They’re not torching cars and breaking windows. They’re Gathering Together which is a civil right and protesting something that is important to them. If the country didn’t let then they would stop them from doing it. It seems like these are the only people standing up for Torah learners unlike the bashers here
