Sen. Lindsey Graham moved Thursday to tamp down speculation that the Trump administration is easing off the possibility of U.S. action against Iran, rejecting reports that President Donald Trump is backing away from confrontation.
“All the headlines like these are examples of reporting that are beyond inaccurate,” Graham wrote on X, insisting that the president’s resolve remains unchanged. “The circumstances around the necessary, decisive action to be taken against the evil Iranian regime have nothing to do with President Trump’s will or determination,” he added, ending with: “Stay tuned.”

The comments came a day after tensions appeared to crest, with U.S. military action seeming increasingly likely as protests rocked Iranian cities. By Wednesday night, however, Trump struck a more cautious tone, telling reporters that he had received assurances that Iranian authorities had halted the killing of protesters and were no longer planning executions.
“We’ll find out about it,” Trump said, adding that the U.S. would react sharply if the violence resumed.
On Thursday morning, Tehran took steps that appeared to support those claims, reopening its airspace and announcing it would not execute Erfan Soltani, a protester whose case had drawn international attention. Trump later welcomed the development as “good news,” expressing hope it would continue.
Even as the immediate temperature cooled, Washington signaled it was keeping pressure on. The United Nations Security Council scheduled an emergency meeting at the request of the U.S. to discuss the situation in Iran, underscoring that despite the shifting rhetoric, the administration’s options remain firmly on the table.
