2,000 Bombs in 48 Hours: Israel Unleashing Relentless Air Blitz on Iran

The IDF says that it has already dropped 2,000 bombs on Iran — a pace so intense that it matches the total output of June 2025’s Operation Rising Lion campaign in just 48 hours. Israeli and U.S. officials said the accelerated tempo was aimed at achieving air supremacy over Tehran as quickly as possible, while the political window remains open.

The central objective this time is what Israeli officials describe as a “root canal” of Iran’s ballistic missile infrastructure. After reducing Iran’s stockpile from roughly 3,000 missiles to 1,300 last year — only to see it rebound to 2,500 within months — planners are now targeting not only missile factories but also the raw materials and launch systems that allow rapid rebuilding. Sixty launchers have reportedly been destroyed, along with sites in Qom and key air force and intelligence headquarters.

By late Sunday, Israeli and U.S. aircraft were operating with near air supremacy, striking regime command centers tied to the IRGC and Basij in a move intended to weaken Tehran’s grip internally as well as militarily. Fighter jets preparing for takeoff were hit on the runway, and naval assets were struck to prevent disruption of the Strait of Hormuz.

Notably, there has been far less public emphasis on nuclear targets than in 2025. With Hezbollah and the Houthis appearing to hold back, the campaign’s duration — and its ultimate threshold for success — remains uncertain.
