Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted Tuesday over a social media post featuring seashells arranged to display the numbers “86 47,” which officials said constituted a threat against President Donald Trump, according to multiple reports.
The post, shared last May, showed shells spelling out the numbers alongside the caption: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.”
Critics quickly interpreted the message as a reference to removing or harming Trump — the 47th president — noting that “86” is slang often used to mean “get rid of” or “eliminate.”
The backlash was immediate, with several Trump administration officials accusing Comey of encouraging violence against the president. Then-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said at the time that the Secret Service would investigate what she called a call “for the assassination” of Trump.
Comey was later brought in for an extensive interview with Secret Service agents in Washington. He reportedly told investigators he had come across the shell arrangement during a beach walk in North Carolina.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard publicly blasted Comey following the post, saying he should be “put behind bars.”
Comey deleted the image later that same day, stating that while he understood it to be a political message, he “didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence.”
The indictment marks the second prosecution brought against Comey by the Trump administration.

Just make sure that James Comey can still attend to cleaning the lavatories at the infamous Delaware basement, and that he can attend to diapering sleepy joe.
