A U.S. official told Axios’ Barak Ravid that Iran and Hezbollah have repeatedly dragged both Israel and Lebanon into what he described as “pointless and destructive conflicts.”
• The official said Hezbollah faces a choice between continuing the fighting or allowing displaced residents to return home and enabling Lebanon’s reconstruction.
• According to the official, the terms currently on the table have the consent of both the Israeli and Lebanese governments and provide a path to end the fighting, adding that Hezbollah would be responsible for any continuation of hostilities.
• The official reaffirmed U.S. support for Israel’s right to self-defense and for Lebanon’s government, while accusing Hezbollah of storing weapons in civilian areas and calling for all weapons in Lebanon to be under state control.
