U.S. to Allow Immediate Iranian Oil Sales Under Emerging Deal, With Broader Sanctions Relief to Follow Compliance Measures

The U.S. will allow Iran to immediately begin selling oil and fuel under the emerging agreement, giving Tehran an early financial incentive to wind down the conflict, according to a WSJ report.

Sanctions waivers on Iranian oil sales would take effect immediately upon signing, along with banking, transportation, and insurance services needed to facilitate the transactions.

While Iran would receive immediate relief on oil sales, access to billions of dollars in frozen funds would remain tied to U.S. demands regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran’s nuclear program.
