I’m an ex-manc and my family there have told me that there is no politics regarding the eiruv, but some people won’t use it for chinuch reasons (children can get confused if the go to a place where there is no eiruv and have to be told why they can’t carry. It’s far easier to teach them that we don’t carry on shabbos).
