You may say that you can only rely on old kulos but not make new ones. “Mai nafka minah”? This approach is at the crux of the “chumrotization’ of yiddishkeit, something which has engulfed our “tsibbur’ for years now. (no strawberries, no broccoli, no lettuce…etc). Certainly ,I will never question the wish of individuals who want to refrain from basing themselves on certain kulos but to do this for the “tsibbur’ at large is an inoovation that has only occurred in recent years and was never pasrt of halacha in the past.
