In my opinion, what heavy metal (and its various subgenres) has become is simply awful noise. There’s the occasional artist who actually knows how to make discordant sounds and make it sound musical, but nowadays, most don’t.
I think the OP was simply saying, Rush is an example of a secular band where a member is Jewish; he wasn’t suggesting that Rush is categorized under the metal genre. Rush is and does rock. 🙂
