The chillul Hashem is that American law does not accept ignorance as an excuse. They should have known better that the exclusion of the two women would be taken the wrong way. They had a responsibility as representatives of Jewish journalism to uphold a high standard, which they did not. They should have chosen a different picture. There is so much negative ignorant internet chatter about this talking about how Judaism is a woman hating religion. They should have been more careful.
