Ubiquitin, I honestly can’t see any other reason for you to ascribe those negative motivations other that intolerance. My personal opinion on pictures (and that of my rebbeim) is probably pretty close to yours, but I have no doubt that there are people who are against it for purely sincere reasons (although I don’t know about the motivations of any particular publication).
