I hate to be cynical but it has cross my mind more than once that people invite a lot of guests to generate more gifts. There are a certain number of people who will send a gift even if they don’t people, and there are people who are generous enough to offset the cost of their meal. Then again there are people who don’t give gifts or small gifts.
