Once someone has two kids (boy + girl) they had fulfilled the mitzvah of pru urvu and then the principal of osek bmitzvah patur min hamitzvah should apply. You can stop having kids until you stop teaching or indeed limit maternity leave to a couple of weeks. All teachers I knew took a month and a half to two months (almost a fourth of a school year!)
