apparently you never got a pedicure. They don’t only work on your toes, they do your whole leg up to the knee (moisturize, exfoliate, massage…) Leaving tights on would not be an option. Happens to be that I recently started wearing leggings and boots when I get a pedicure, so all I have to do is take of my boots and push up my leggings- very convenient!

I am far from a posek, but what I remember from high school (not TOO long ago) is that minhag hamakom is considered halacha for the people who live there and it has been minhag hamakom in America nowadays, it is proper to wear socks. Minhag hamakom only applies to areas that are not obvious halachos. For example, everyone agrees that covering the knee is halacha, and no minhag hamakom applies.
You are free to do whatever you wish, its your life. But don’t try to back yourself up with halacha.
